The Orange County Sheriff’s Office has released body camera footage from the deputy-involved shooting that took place at the beginning of January.
On January 2, deputies responded to the 1000 block of Santa Barbara Road in the Pine Hills community after a woman called in regarding a domestic dispute.
Upon arrival, deputies encountered a man firing shots in the middle of the street. The man was later identified as 28-year-old Kadeem Errol Livingston Smith III.
According to the sheriff’s office, Smith shot and injured his father before turning the gun on the police in a gunfight that lasted several minutes.
Body camera footage from three separate deputies involved in the shooting shows an intense situation with dozens of rounds fired by Smith and police.
In the video, multiple deputies can be overheard ordering Smith to drop his weapon. Screams from neighbors can be heard in the background as the firefight ensues.
Towards the end of the firefight, one deputy indicates that he has “a shot” on Smith and seconds after a shotgun burst is fired, deputies can be heard taking control of the scene.
According to officials, emergency personnel have responded to the house on Santa Barbara Road over a dozen times since 2019. Although the majority of those calls were either medical or alarm-related, there was a previous domestic violence incident reported at the household.
