A 14-year-old boy who was visiting Orlando while from Missouri during his Spring Break fell to his death from a multi-story Orlando attraction on Thursday evening.
Orange County Sheriff’s Office says the tragic accident took place at the Orlando Free Fall ride in ICON Park, located at 8433 International Drive, last night and claimed the life of Tyre Sampson.
According to social media posts from family members, Sampson, who played football, was on his Spring Break.
“Our prayers and our thoughts are with the family. We can’t imagine what they’re going through,” said sheriff John Mina during a press conference this afternoon.
According to Mina, the attraction has been shut down and is under investigation by the Florida Department of Agriculture.
“Our role in this situation is to determine whether or not this is an accident or an intentional act,” said Mina.
Mina says that a viral video that allegedly shows communication among employees after the incident will be used during the investigation.
“Everything seemed to be okay and normal. We’ve talked to all of the witnesses available and the employees there,” said Mina. He indicated that no criminal charges had been filed and that the matter appeared to be a “tragic accident.”
“Tyre was here with a friend’s family from the state of Missouri. As a father with boys who go on rides and who frequent amusement parks a lot, it’s just a tragic situation,” said Mina.
