Dorris M Propps

She was born in Gauley Bridge W. VA on April 20, 1918 to Howard and Malladise McCarley. Sandy was educated in West Virginia schools. While visiting family in Virginia she met her future husband Alderson “Stretch” Propps. They were married in 1940. After her husband joined the Navy at the start of WWII, she traveled with him on most of his assignments. She acquired secretarial jobs at several of the military bases. In 1948 Sandy and Stretch moved to Orlando FL where they raised their two children. She worked for SunBank for many years and retired as executive secretary having worked for the President and Chairman of the Board. She was a longtime member of College Park United Methodist Church where she volunteered her time in the office, played piano for the church and her Sunday School class. Sandy also played the piano at a local nursing home once a week for their “sing-along”. Her talent and gift was playing the piano for family and friends. While working full time and raising a family, Sandy was a talented seamstress making many of her clothes as well as outfits for her daughter. She was an avid reader and a favorite past time was working crossword puzzles. Her love and devotion for her family was most important to her.

Sandy is preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband of 53 years Stretch Propps, son Michael Propps, and her sister Theda Doss.

Sandy is survived by daughter, Pamela Smith, two grandchildren, Kristin Nichols (Sean) and Jeffrey Propps (Stacy). Great grandchildren Brandon, Bryson, Brieann Nichols, Parker and Paxton Propps. Her sister Elta “Katie” Brightman. Daughter-in-law Brenda Propps. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

A private graveside service was held at Woodlawn Memorial Cemetery on Sunday May 22, 2022.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, June 3, 2022 at College Park United Methodist Church, 644 W. Princeton St. Orlando, FL 32804. Reception to follow in the Fellowship Hall.
