Glenda Faye Watters Mowdy

Saturday morning, May 28, 2022, Glenda Faye Watters Mowdy, age 82, went home to be with the Lord after a struggle with recurring illness. Glenda was born in Meridian, MS June 6, 1939, to Donald G. & Garnette Watters. She graduated from Meridian High School in 1957. She married Wilburn Terry Mowdy of Meridian June 21, 1959. Glenda accepted Jesus as her personal Savior and was baptized at Marion Baptist Church in Marion, MS in 1953.

Wilburn (Wil) and Glenda moved throughout the Southeast through Wil’s work with the Federal Aviation Administration and settled in Orlando, Fl in August 1980; there, Wil and Glenda found a church home at First Baptist Church Orlando. Through their church and neighborhoods over the years, they raised their children, Melisa and Michael, and developed a close family of many friends. Glenda was a devoted stay-at-home wife and mother while her children were growing up, and later she became a doting and dedicated grandmother to her grandsons Justin and Marshall Taylor as well as an adoring great-grandmother to Juliet, Brooks, and Jackson Taylor.

Through their church homes, Wil and Glenda were blessed to participate in sharing the gospel through a number of mission trips. As well, Glenda spent a good part of her life working with the children’s ministry in different churches where she and her husband were members over the last sixty plus years.

After their children were grown, Glenda worked for several years as a tax preparer for H&R Block and helped friends and loved ones with tax questions.

Glenda is survived by her husband of almost 63 years, Wil; her daughter Melisa (Larry) Taylor; her son Michael (Christi) Mowdy; her grandsons Justin (Shelbi) Taylor and Marshall (Lauren) Taylor; her great-grandchildren Juliet, Brooks, and Jackson; her sister Dancy Poythress; niece Melanie Poythress and nephew Don (Aubrey) Poythress; her sister-in-law Joyce (Jim) Johnson; nephews Clint and Chris Chesnut.

A celebration of Glenda’s life will be held at Henry Chapel, First Baptist Church Orlando, 3000 S. John Young Parkway on June 18, 2022, at 10:00am. Memories may be shared through Dobbs Funeral Home, Orlando.

Glenda’s family prays that if you do not have a relationship with Jesus Christ that you will open your heart to Him, accept Him as your personal Savior, and ask Him to come into your heart. Streaming the service, for those unable to attend, is available at 9:55 AM on June 18, 2022.
