Spirituality has always been an important part of Nell’s life, and she said, “she gained a lot of spirituality from her mother Mabel Huddleston and gained even more from the Catholic Church”.

Nell was born in Funchal Madeira, an Island of Portugal, and spent the first 15 years of her life in Europe and the West Indies with her Mother Mabel and Father John Huddleston along with her siblings Mary and John, because her father was in the U.S. Foreign Service. Growing up during World War II and afterwards, were very active, fun, and trying times. Spirituality again was at the core of her new family, especially after she met Airforce Lieutenant Richard B. (Dick) Rogers. After they settled down in Winter Park where she attended St. Margaret Mary they moved to Maitland and was one of the first Parishioners to attend St. Mary Magdalen (SMM) in 1959, which was still the remains of a concrete night club.

Nell’s oldest son Mike attended SMM in 1961, and then followed by her other four sons. Nell was on the SMM School Board, Welcoming Committee, Community First, St. Anthony Circle, Cursillo, Marriage Encounter, Eucharistic Ministry, Parrish Retreats, taught CCD as well as attended Bible Studies. Nell did all of this while she was raising her children and teaching at Lake Sybelia Elementary where she substituted long into her retirement. Nell was graceful, understanding, loving, patient, thoughtful, kind, and will remain forever in our hearts.
