State Road 417 was temporarily shut down after a dump truck overturned and spilled hundreds of pounds of garbage onto the highway.
The incident took place on Saturday, July 9, around 10:34 a.m. near mile marker 7 on SR 417. According to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol, a 2019 Hyundai Elantra being driven by a 38-year-old Maryland man was traveling northbound on the highway when the vehicle attempted to make an improper lane change.
As the Elantra moved into the outside lane, the right rear of the vehicle struck the left front of a 2015 Mack dump truck being driven by a 54-year-old Orlando man. The collision caused the dump truck to overturn and collide with a concrete wall barrier, guardrail, and a pole.
The dump truck came to final rest overturned with its entire load of construction debris spilled onto the roadway.
The driver of the Elantra and his three passengers, a 16-year-old girl, 15-year-old boy, and 9-year-old boy, received minor injuries in the crash and remained on scene. The driver of the dump truck was transported to Osceola Regional Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
