A 43-year-old Edgewater man was arrested after police found three dead dogs locked in cages in “deplorable living conditions” in his home and a fourth that died shortly after receiving medical attention.
According to the Edgewater Police Department, on Friday, July 15, deputies responded to a residence in reference to a report of several deceased animals and a dog in need of emergency medical assistance.
Upon arrival, authorities say they encountered “deplorable living conditions” and, during a search of the residence, located three dogs “deceased inside their cages.”

In addition to the three deceased dogs, a small black lab was rescued and provided emergency medical assistance. Authorities say that shortly after the dog received the fluids and medication, she passed away.

The homeowner, William Demchick, was arrested and is facing four counts of animal cruelty. Demchick was booked into the Volusia County Branch jail.
