Lake Killarney bacteria levels alert

Winter Park officials have issued an alert for Lake Killarney after a privately-owned lift station failure produced elevated bacteria levels.

On Wednesday, Winter Park and Orange County health officials issuing a precautionary alert for Lake Killarney due to potentially elevated bacteria levels from a privately-owned lift station failure located on the east side of the lake.

The city is warning residents to refrain from recreation, irrigation, and fishing until further notice.

Additional samples will be collected on Thursday, July 21, and again on Tuesday, July 26 in order to measure and compare levels. The city says it will notify media outlets and residents as soon as the water samples return to normal levels.
