Longwood girl played dead, walked 3/4 mile to mother’s job after father slashed her throat, killed 3-year-old sister

A critically injured 12-year-old Longwood girl played dead and then walked three-quarters of a mile to her mother’s job after she was attacked by her father just moments after he allegedly killed her 3-year-old sister.

Longwood police arrested 39-year-old Juan Bravo-Torres on Friday for first degree murder and first degree attempted murder for allegedly killing his 3-year-old daughter and critically injuring her 12-year-old sister.

The 12-year-old victim says that she was sleeping in her bed when she felt Bravo-Torres put his hands on her neck and slash her throat. After Bravo-Torres went to retrieve another knife, the girl says she left the bedroom and discovered the body of her 3-year-old sister in the hallway.

The victim says that Bravo-Torres returned shortly thereafter and continued to attack her before she eventually acted as if she was dead in hopes he would stop.

While playing dead, Bravo-Torres allegedly dragged the girl and her sister into the bathroom, where he cut his wrists and his throat.

The 12-year-old says she waited for her father to lose consciousness before she grabbed the knife he used to attack her and left the bathroom.

The victim then says she walked to the McDonald’s where her mother works, located at 290 N SR 17-92, over three-quarters of a mile away. Along the walk, the victim disposed of the knife in bushes near the McDonald’s.

Bravo-Torres is currently under police custody at the hospital, suffering from critical, self-inflicted wounds. Once he has recovered, he will be transported to the county jail.
