Police believe that an Oviedo teenager who was run over and killed while he was lying in the roadway was knocked unconscious after falling from his Onewheel.
The incident took place just before 6 a.m. on Saturday, July 23 near the intersection of McCulloch Road and Shadow Creek Circle. According to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol, the teen was traveling eastbound on McCulloch Road on his Onewheel, just east of Shadow Creek Circle.
Homicide investigators say that preliminary evidence shows the teenager fell off his Onewheel and struck his head on the roadway. As he was laying in the outside lane of travel, a 2012 Dodge Charger being driven by a 22-year-old man from Tallahassee ran him over.
The driver advised that he felt an impact and continued traveling eastbound, stating that he did not realize what he had struck and thought he “hit an object or animal that was in the roadway,” according to the FHP report.
The driver returned to the scene after the incident and cooperated with investigators.
