Florida Department of Health Officials in Orange County have lifted a bacteria alert that was issued for Lake Killarney just days after discovering elevated bacteria levels due to a privately-owned lift station failure.
On Monday, officials lifted the alert after collecting samples on Thursday, July 21, that showed that despite elevated levels for the east of the lake remaining, it did not “surpass surface water criteria.” Furthermore, central and west samples from the lake had no detection.
“Lake Killarney is now safe for recreation, irrigation, and fishing,” reads a press release from the city of Winter Park.
City officials say the data shows the spill was “mostly contained by the stormwater exfiltration system in place.”
