One person was killed and six others were transported to local hospitals after an accident this afternoon that shut down a busy stretch of U.S. Highway 17-92 in Longwood.
Longwood Police Department officers were called at 3:19 p.m. on Thursday afternoon in reference to a vehicle crash at U.S. Hwy 17-92 and Kathryn Drive.
According to police, a white Nissan Altima was traveling south on SR 600, approaching Kathryn Drive, when it was struck by a Kia Sedona traveling northbound. The Kia was conducting a left turn when it struck the driver’s side of the Altima.
The driver of the Altima, who has not been identified by police, was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The six occupants of the Kia were transported to area hospitals with unspecified injuries.
