Gertrude Bernadette Jones, 103, passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday July 21 2022 in Orlando Florida. She was surrounded by her children and several of her closest friends.
She entered this life on August 6 1918 and was the youngest of ten with two sisters and seven brothers. Her parents were originally from Switzerland and the family lived on a dairy farm in Stokes, New York. In 1945 she visited Florida with her parents and loved it so much she decided to stay. She spent some time in Miami before coming to Orlando.
In 1948 she met the love of her life Eddie Jones and they married on New Years Day 1949.
They settled in south Orlando had three children Robert, William and Wendy. They were very active socially and were members of several Orlando social clubs where they enjoyed dining , dancing and travel. Nearly every weekend they would be out and about elegantly gliding across the dance floor completely in love.
The clean country life of her youth and her “Swiss genes” gave her remarkable health.
She was one of those rare individuals who was virtually “never sick a day in her life”.
Getting to be a 100 was easy for her. She could tell how. She worked for Orange County Health and Welfare for 23 years and retired in 1984.
She is survived by her three children and their spouses: Robert and Eunice (Orlando) William and Mary Ann (Winterville Ga) and Wendy and Lauren (Sanford). Two step daughters: Bonnie Hartley and Donna Rosette (Jacksonville). Two grand children: Jason Jones (Jacksonville) and Natalie Greene (St. Petersburg). Three great grand children: Chase, Dylan and Ellison.
She often spoke of how she missed being with her friends and dancing with her husband.
At last the music is playing and the dance floor is open it’s just up the stairs.
Be at peace dear woman and know that you are loved.
