Madeline Faye Register Bandy passed from this life into the arms of Jesus at 11:50 am on July 25, 2022. Madeline was born on November 16, 1940 to Florence Corbett Register and Ernest Faye Register, Sr. in Augusta, Georgia. Madeline was a happy, healthy child who participated in drama and glee club throughout elementary and junior high school. She was active in the Girl Scouts with her mother as the scout leader. Madeline attended Academy of Richmond County for high school where she was a majorette. She participated in several beauty pageants in the Augusta area specifically the Miss Augusta and the Miss Golf pageants. After high school graduation, Madeline worked as a book keeper and bank teller at First National Bank in Augusta.

In September 1959, Madeline met the love of her life, George Maynard Bandy. Maynard and Madeline married on August 20, 1961 at the Central Avenue Church of Christ in Augusta, Georgia. Maynard was a co-op student at the University of Florida so Maynard and Madeline moved to Gainesville in January 1962. While in Gainesville, Madeline worked at the Florida National Bank while Maynard finished his mechanical engineering degree. Madeline earned her “PHT” at the University of Florida for “Pushing Hubby Through”. After graduation, they returned to North Augusta, SC where Madeline was a teller for the Georgia Railroad Bank in Augusta, Georgia. Madeline found her passion teaching and working with preschool children at the Richmond Hill Church of Christ and later the North Augusta Church of Christ. In 1966, Maynard accepted a job at Martin Marietta (now Lockheed Martin) in Orlando, Florida. They moved to Orlando and Madeline began work at Sun Bank (now Truist).

On January 13, 1970, Maynard and Madeline welcomed their first child, Gina Michelle Bandy. In February of 1970, Maynard accepted a job with Walt Disney World and Madeline officially became a “Disney wife” and “stay-at-home” mom. On July 10, 1972, they welcomed their second child, George Michael Bandy. Madeline continued to be a “stay-at-home” mom and loved every minute of it. She was actively involved in every aspect of the children’s lives, home life and Maynard’s work life.

Madeline pursued her passion of working with children throughout her life. She taught preschool children at Concord Street Church of Christ in Orlando, Florida and at Windermere Preschool in Windermere, Florida. Madeline was actively involved in every school that Michelle and Michael attended. Many parents and teachers knew her as the “MVP” (Most Valuable Parent) at Orlando Baptist Temple, Pine Hills Christian Academy, Dr. Phillips Elementary, West Ridge Junior High School, West Orange High School and Dr. Phillips High School. She served as the parent volunteer for Spanish Club and Chorus at West Orange High School and was a Band parent operating the concession stand at Dr. Phillips High School.

Madeline was a volunteer with the American Red Cross disaster relief program and worked through relief programs for Hurricane Andrew, Charlie and David. Madeline worked as a volunteer in the 1996 Olympics as a greeter and seating hostess for the soccer games at Sanford Stadium at the University of Georgia. She actively volunteered with the Lake Buena Vista Rotary Club as a Rotary spouse.

Madeline and Maynard loved to camp in the summer in the North Carolina mountains. To kick-off Maynard’s retirement from Disney, Maynard and Madeline built another house in Banner Elk, NC. They enjoyed spending 6 months including summer months in the cool breeze of their mountain home. Madeline enjoyed Maynard’s retirement from Disney when they spent 6 months in Banner Elk, NC and 6 months in Orlando, FL every year. Madeline lived in the house that she and Maynard built in 1971 until her passing.

Madeline and Maynard loved to travel. Her favorite places to travel were various states including Alaska and Hawaii along with many European countries including Germany, France, England and Austria.

Madeline loved to help get school ready to open each year at any school that her sister-in-law, Frances Drown, was serving as a principal. Madeline also helped open school every year at Anderson Christian School in Anderson, SC where Michelle served as principal.

Madeline was a dedicated wife to Maynard, mom to Michelle and Michael, mother-in-law, and grandmother to 6 grandchildren (Micah, Madison, Grace, Gigi (Michael) and Joseph and Danielle (Michelle)).

Madeline recently suffered from a series of strokes and passed away peacefully at Cornerstone Hospice in Ocoee, FL. The family would like to thank Cornerstone Hospice for their excellent service during her short stay.

Madeline was preceded in death by her father, Ernest Faye Register, Sr., her mother, Florence Corbett Register, her brothers, Ernest Faye Register, Jr., and David James Register. She was an active member of the Concord Street Church of Christ in Orlando, FL, the Banner Elk Church of Christ in Banner Elk, NC, and the C Street Church of Christ in Elizabethton, TN.

Funeral service at A Community will follow at 10:00 am. Graveside services will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery (400 Woodlawn Cemetery Rd, Gotha, FL).
