Three people were killed during a Narcotics Anonymous meeting in Edgewater in what police are calling a domestic incident.
On Monday, August 8, Edgewater Police Department officers responded to a Narcotics Anonymous meeting at Bridging the Gap, a faith-based, non-profit organization located at 515 N. Ridgewood Avenue, after receiving calls regarding a shooting.
Law enforcement authorities were told that an armed individual had shot a male subject and was holding a female hostage inside the building.
The other participants in the meeting were able to flee the scene and were unharmed.
The Edgewater Police Special Weapons and Tactics force attempted to make contact with the suspect in order to negotiate the release of the hostage, but say they were unsuccessful in their attempt.
The SWAT team breached the building and discovered three deceased bodies, including the suspect.
Police say they are currently working the investigation, but that they believe the incident was domestic in nature.
