An upscale bistro in downtown DeLand was forced to temporarily close its doors after a health inspector found rodent activity and issued a stop sale for French onion soup that had expired ten days prior.
According to a report from the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation, on Thursday, August 18, The Parched Oak, which is located at 145 N. Woodland Boulevard, was forced to temporarily close its doors after an inspector found at least 15 health code violations.
Among the violations cited was the presence of rodent activity, as evidenced by at least 30 droppings that were found around the kitchen.
Additionally, a stop sale was issued for French onion soup that had exceeded its expiration date. According to the report, a container with soup marked August 8 was still in the walk-in cooler.
The issues were corrected on site and after another visit on the same day, the restaurant was permitted to reopen with only seven violations, none of which were considered high priority.
