A 55-year-old Deltona man has been charged with aggravated stalking of a 6-year-old girl after the girl’s father and neighbors reported nearly a dozen harassing incidents in eight months, including one in which he invited the girl to Disney World to turn her “into a woman.”
Volusia County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested Mark Greenburg on Saturday, September 3, after receiving multiple complaints from close to a dozen witnesses who reported Greenburg’s behavior. In total, at least 11 incidents were reported over the past 8 months to local authorities.
According to police, on multiple occasions, Greenburg harassed neighbors, yelled at children and their kids using a megaphone, and drove past houses while recording children on his phone.
Deputies responded to the neighborhood Friday evening after a father reported that Greenburg had approached his daughter who was playing at the end of the driveway and made “unusual comments.” According to the father, Greenburg told his daughter that he was going to take her to Disney World, in addition to stating “I’m going to make you famous” and “I’m going to turn you into a woman.”
Several witnesses verified that they heard Greenburg made the comments to the child.
According to the father, the incidents have made his daughter afraid to go outside in the neighborhood. He indicated that Greenburg’s comments were becoming more frequent and had been worsening.
On Thursday, September 1 and Friday, September 2, Greenburg was seen outside of the girl’s grandmother’s home in a separate neighborhood. During those instances, he was allegedly seen taking photos of the child.
The family says that Greenburg had no reason to know where the grandmother lives and believe that he followed one of the family members to the home.
When officers tried to make contact with Greenburg on Friday, he refused to answer the door and said he would talk another day.
Deltona Crime Suppression officers obtained a warrant and returned on Saturday to arrest Greenburg.
He was transported to the Volusia County Jail.
