Police looking for Jeep that struck, killed bicyclist

Florida Highway Patrol homicide investigators are looking for a Jeep Wrangler that was involved in a fatal hit-and-run accident that claimed the life of a 56-year-old bicyclist.

The incident took place on Sunday, September 11, at around 8:39 p.m. near the intersection of U.S. Highway 92/International Speedway Boulevard and 4th Street.

According to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol, an unknown vehicle was traveling westbound on U.S. Hwy 92 when it ran off the roadway onto the right shoulder and struck a 56-year-old Daytona Beach man who was riding his bicycle.

The front of the vehicle struck the man, who was pronounced deceased at the scene.

After the collision, the vehicle fled the scene.

Traffic homicide investigators found a car part in the area of the collision and have advised that they are looking for a dark gray Jeep Wrangler between the years of 2007 and 2018. They believe that type of vehicle may have been involved in the collision.

The vehicle should have damage to its front right fender, according to authorities.
