Samuel Edward Culver

Samuel Edward Culver, age 88, passed away at Winter Park Hospital on September 2nd, 2022. He was born June 29th, 1934 in Orlando Florida to Benjamin Culver and Frances Culver (Crick).

He joined the United States Navy in 1951 and served until he retired in 1972 as a Master Chief. He served on ten aircraft carriers in a career spanning the Korean conflict to the Vietnam War. He earned a Bachelor and Master’s Degree in Education from the University of North Florida then moved to Winter Park in 1977 to work at the Naval Training Center Orlando, later known as Research Park. For seventeen years, he provided flight simulators and support to members of the Armed Services. After his retirement, he joined the Citizens on Patrol (COP) as a volunteer with the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office, earning several awards for his service over a ten-year period.

He was also a Shriner for over fifty years with the Morocco Temple in Jacksonville and Bahia Temple in Orlando with the Roarin’ 20’s.

Sam was a dedicated and loving husband to Jean Culver and is survived by his sister Shirley Rogers, sons Michael, Wayne, David, Dennis, Ricky and Steven and grandchildren Meagan, Jenna, Scott, Jennifer, Jacob, Jessica, Evan and Olivia, who brought him many hours of joy.

He loved working on Mustangs with his sons and spending time with family. He brought joy to everyone he met and is now with God and in the arms of his only daughter, Sandra, and his wife of fifty-seven years, Jeane.

Please join us in celebrating his life at Newcomer Funeral Home, 3806 Howell Branch Road, Winter Park on Saturday, September 24, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, you may donate to the Shriners Charity or St. Jude Christian Research Hospital.
