Volusia County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested a 16-year-old student after receiving calls regarding a weapon displayed during an altercation at Pine Ridge High School.
On Friday, September 9, police officers responded to the high school, which is located at 926 Howland Boulevard in Deltona, after receiving calls regarding a fight in which a student flashed a gun.
Upon making contact with the student in question, deputies searched the student’s backpack and recovered a replica Glock BB gun.
After discovering the gun, the student began violently resisting deputies, according to VCSO. The student attempted to fight, but was taken into custody after a brief scuffle.
The student is being charged with campus disruption, resisting an officer with violence, and battery on a law enforcement officer.
The altercation follows a week of gun and bomb threats made at multiple schools at local high schools. On Monday, DeLand High School was put on lockdown after reports of a possible missing child and weapons on campus.
That incident took place just a day after a social media scare put Lyman High School students and parents on edge. After an investigation by police, that threat was dispelled as “non-credible.”
