A former elementary school resource officer in Altamonte Springs was relieved of his duties after he was arrested on Friday and charged with ten counts of possessing child pornography.
Steven Selph, who was previously assigned as the resource officer for Spring Lake Elementary School, was arrested by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement and Lake County Sheriff’s Office on Friday, September 16.
Earlier this week, FDLE agents executed a search warrant at Selph’s home and he was placed on unpaid administrative leave by the Altamonte Springs Police Department.
“With the completion of the criminal investigation, he was immediately terminated,” reads a statement from ASPD. “That anyone could view images of this kind shocks the conscience and is abhorrent to all of us, particularly from a person placed in a position of trust.”
Selph had served with the Altamonte Springs Police Department for over 13 years. Before taking over as a school resource officer, he worked on the department’s Street Crimes Unit.
Selph is facing ten charges of possession of sexual performacne by a child and is currently being held in the Lake County Detention Center without bond.
