Law enforcement authorities are asking the public for any information that will help find a truck responsible for striking and killing a bicyclist who was riding in a bicycle lane along Irlo Bronson Memorial Highway.
The incident took place on Monday, September 19, at around 6:05 a.m. near the intersection of U.S. Hwy 192/E Irlo Bronson Memorial Hwy and Simmons Road.
According to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol, a bicyclist was traveling eastbound on U.S. Hwy 192 in the marked bicycle lane when, for unknown reasons, a vehicle entered the bicycle lane and struck the bicyclist from behind.
The bicyclist was pronounced deceased at the scene and the vehicle fled after the collision.
Traffic homicide investigators say they found pieces of a front, right headlight that they believe belonged to a lighter color, Ford F-150. They believe that type of pickup truck was involved in the crash. The vehicle should have heavy damage to the right front headlight, according to authorities.
