A large stretch of the Florida Turnpike has been closed, along with multiple thoroughfares and communities that have all been flooded by heavy rainfall from Tropical Storm Ian.
The Florida Highway Patrol has closed the Florida Turnpike from mile markers 254 through 267 due to “significant flooding.”
Currently, the northbound lanes are closed from mile marker 254 and the southbound lanes are closed from mile marker 267. The stretch will remain closed until the storm passes and flooding subsides, according to FHP.
As of 8 a.m., the formation has weakened into Tropical Storm Ian. Currently, the storm is producing maximum sustained winds near 65 mph, with tropical storm force winds extending outward up to 415 miles, according to the National Hurricane Center.
City of Orlando officials say they have received reports on multiple thoroughfares throughout the area. Those include Colonial Drive, Semoran Boulevard, South Orange Blossom Trail, Orange Avenue, Richmond Heights, and Woodgate Boulevard, among many others.
Residents across Osceola and Orange County have reported neighborhoods being entirely engulfed in multiple feet of water.
