A 14-year-old boy was killed and a teenage driver was seriously injured after their vehicle was struck by another while trying to make a U-turn.
According to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol, the incident took place on Thursday, October 6, at around 7:29 p.m. near the intersection of N Spring Garden Avenue and W International Speedway in Volusia County.
A 16-year-old driver was traveling northbound on State Road 15A in a 2007 Ford Taurus. At the road’s intersection with U.S. Highway 92/W International Speedway, the driver attempted to make a u-turn.
As a result, the vehicle entered the direct path of a 2018 Ford F-150 being driven by a 28-year-old Orange City woman, and the front of the pickup truck struck the right side of the Taurus.
A 14-year-old boy riding as a passenger in the Taurus was killed after the impact and was pronounced deceased at the scene. The 16-year-old driver was transported to Halifax Health Medical Center with serious injuries.
The woman driving the pickup truck and her passenger, a 4-year-old boy, were also transported to the Halifax Health Medical Center with minor injuries.
