A 24-year-old DeBary man was killed this weekend after he was ejected from his motorcycle by a vehicle that failed to yield while making a left turn and struck him head-on.
Nicholas Gonzalez was killed on Friday, October 7, as he was riding his 2005 Honda motorcycle on Enterprise Road in DeBary, according to a report from the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office.
Gonzalez was traveling northbound on Enterprise Road toward Pond Court, just after 4:30 p.m. on Friday, when a sport utility vehicle that was driving southbound on the road entered his path. The SUV was attempting to make a left turn and failed to yield, according to police.
The motorcycle and SUV struck each other head-on, and Gonzalez was ejected onto the hood of a third vehicle that was stopped at the intersection of Pond Court and Enterprise Road.
Gonzalez then landed on a grassy area on the road’s shoulder, according to authorities. He was treated for his injuries at the scene and was transported to Central Florida Regional Medical Center in Sanford, where he was pronounced deceased.
Gonzalez was a member of the United Association of Plumbers and Pipefitters Local Union 295 and was nearing graduation from the program, according to a union representative.
The driver of the SUV and a passenger in the vehicle sustained minor cuts and bruises in the crash. The third driver was not injured. During their investigation, VCSO determined that none of the drivers exhibited signs of impairment.
