Osceola County police are warning residents of new scammers who are posing as government officials to gather credit card information.
According to the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office, residents have reportedly been receiving phone calls from scammers posing as Osceola County Building Department officials. Police say that scammers’ calls are showing up from numbers including 407-742-0200, which is a legitimate, Osceola County Government phone number.
During their conversations, scammers are telling victims that the county is changing their form of payment before requesting credit card information.
“It is important to remember to not trust your caller ID. Scammers can make any name and phone number appear on the caller ID to make you believe it is a trusted source, when in fact, it could be a scammer calling from anywhere in the world,” reads a statement from OSCO.
