Local police are dispelling false rumors made through social media of an active shooter at Evans High School.
According to the Orange County Sheriff’s Office, on Thursday, rumors circulated through social media of a threat at the high school, which is located at 4949 Silver Star Road in Orlando.
Authorities say that there was no evidence of any criminal activity on campus and no weapons were found.
“Please help us manage the misinformation that seems to be on social media right now,” reads a statement from police.
On Wednesday, authorities dispelled similar rumors about an active shooter at Dr. Phillips High School. That incident resulted in the school being put on lockdown after someone made fake threats through a 911 call.
After officers canvassed the area, it was determined that the call was a hoax.
In both instances, parents and students were quick to post information about the situations online, despite not knowing the full details.
In September, threats made on social media resulted in multiple incidents at local high schools across Volusia, Seminole, Orange, and Osceola County.
