35-year-old woman arrested 4 months after hitting, killing bicyclist ejected into Indian River

The Florida Highway Patrol has arrested an Altamonte Springs woman who they believe left the scene of a fatal accident after she struck a bicyclist with her vehicle and ejected him into the Indian River.

Police arrested 35-year-old Anabel Morales in connection with the accident, which took place on State Road 520 on June 3.

During that incident, authorities say that 56-year-old Stephan Christian Morf was traveling eastbound on his bicycle on the Merritt Island Causway, approaching the crest of the Hubert Humphrey Bridge, when he was struck from behind by a vehicle that failed to maintain its lane.

Morf was ejected from his bicycle and into the Indian River, where his body was recovered by a US Coast Guard vessel.

In late June, authorities provided an update on the vehicle involved in the accident.

Morales was booked on Monday, October 24 into the Orange County Jail. She faces charges of tampering with evidence and leaving the scene of a crash involving death.
