The DeLand Police Department is investigating the death of a woman whose body was found in the woods behind a popular local restaurant.
On Friday, October 28, DeLand police responded to calls regarding a suspicious incident in the woods along the 400 block of South Woodland Boulevard, behind C’s Waffles restaurant.
Upon arrival, officers located a deceased female who was later identified as 38-year-old Vawn Burgos.
Police say the incident does not appear to be suspicious in nature, but are currently investigating and awaiting further details from the medical examiner’s office.
Burgos had been arrested four times this year, with her most recent arrest coming on October 14 for trespassing. She was released from jail on Tuesday, October 25, just a few days before her body was found.
In total, Volusia County court records show that Burgos was arrested 11 times between 2011 and 2022 for drug and battery offenses, among others.
