On Saturday October 29, Dr. Suraj Kurup passed away peacefully in his sleep. He was a beloved husband to Parvathi (Micky) Kurup and a wonderful father to Devika Kurup. Suraj earned both his Undergraduate Degree and Medical Degree at Boston University. He was a dedicated physician who loved cardiology.
Suraj was the most humble, generous, and loyal friend. He was a mentor, colleague, husband and father. He had a love for reading, books, history and art. He enjoyed traveling and especially enjoyed a good wagyu steak. He was always ready with a joke and a story for everyone’s amusement, including his own. He engaged with everyone around him and made them feel valued and cherished. His loss is felt by many.
Suraj was an avid reader and lover of poetry. Among the many poems that he would recount, this poem by E.E. Cummings was one of his favorites:
I carry your heart with me (I carry it in
My heart) I am never without it (anywhere
I go you go, my dear; and whatever is done
By only me is your doing, my darling)
I fear
No fate (for you are my fate, my sweet) I want
No world (for beautiful you are my world, my true)
And it’s you are whatever a moon has always meant
And whatever a sun will always sing is you
Here is the deepest secret nobody knows
(here is the root of the root and the bud of the bud
And the sky of the sky of a tree called life; which grows
Higher than soul can hope or mind can hide)
And this is the wonder that’s keeping the stars apart
I carry your heart (I carry it in my heart)
