A 20-year-old has been arrested in connection with the murder of a 41-year-old father who was shot in the head during a road rage incident in Osceola County.
On Wednesday, November 30, Brandon Nicholas Singh was arrested and charged with first degree murder for allegedly killing Clifford Tavares during a road rage incident that took place on October 23.
During a press conference on Thursday, Osceola County Sheriff Marcos Lopez provided details on the incident, which took place along Buenaventura Boulevard.
Lopez says detectives tracked the path of travel for Tavares and determined that he had cut off another vehicle, causing it to drive off the roadway to avoid a collision.
Singh was riding as a passenger in the vehicle, which he had just purchased from the driver, a 17-year-old male.
According to Lopez, the two were upset about being cutoff and, in response, chased down Tavares’ vehicle.
From the passenger seat, Singh shot at Tavares vehicle and struck him in the head.
Tavares vehicle then veered off the road and crashed into another vehicle in a parking lot. He was transported to a local hospital and died from his injuries a few days later.
During an interview with Singh, he admitted to shooting at Tavares vehicle, but claimed he did so in self-defense.
“There is absolutely no evidence that indicates this was anything but a cold-blooded murder,” said Lopez during the press conference, who described the incident as a “typical road rage” case.
Singh is being held at the Osceola County Jail on no bond.
