Splash Mountain closing after 33 years, reopening as The Princess and the Frog ride

A classic ride at Disney World will close down next month after over three decades in operation to make way for a new theme.

Splash Mountain, which was first opened in the summer of 1989, will officially close down in January and will be re-themed to a new ride based on The Princess and the Frog.

Tiana’s Bayou Adventure will open sometime in late 2024, baring the name of Princess Tiana, the lead character in the 2009 movie set in 1920’s New Orleans, according to the company.

“Tiana’s Bayou Adventure will take you along with Princess Tiana, Prince Naveen and their friends as they host a party at Tiana’s Place for the people of New Orleans,” reads a statement from the company.

Disney announced plans to refresh the ride based on the movie back in 2020.

Located in the Magic Kingdom Park, Splash Mountain is one of the most well-known log-flume rides in the world and features 950,000 gallons of water, three dips, and a five-story drop.
