Our Mommy, Our Lola
Mercedes Maniego was born on September 4,1934 in Quezon, Nueva Ecija, Philippines. Fondly called “Mommy” and “Lola”, Ched was the matriarch of a very large family. Together with her husband, Romeo Maniego, they raised nine children and were surrounded by the love of twenty-four grandchildren and twenty great-grandchildren.
Ched was known for her classic beauty and sweet, loving nature. She had a huge heart for everybody, especially the poor.
Ched was an amazing cook, and her style of cooking can never be replicated by anyone else. There was never any recipe, just her special touch. Her own favorite foods were anything vegetables and fish.
In her younger days, she loved to dance the tango with her husband, Romeo.
Her happiness came from being around her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Her frequent lines were “My children are my only treasure”, and “I am happiest when we are all together.”
