A 21-year-old motorcyclist from Palm Coast was killed after he was thrown from his vehicle while attempting to pass another vehicle on the shoulder of an exit ramp on Interstate 4.
The fatal accident took place on Thursday, December 29, at around 3:06 p.m., according to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol.
The motorcyclist was riding a 2019 Suzuki GSX-R600L9 eastbound on the I-4 exit ramp towards northbound I-95. He was following a 2018 semi-truck that was traveling adjacent to a 2019 Chrysler Pacifica.
The motorcyclist attempted to travel onto the shoulder in order to pass the semi-truck when, for unknown reasons, he lost control of the vehicle and struck the outside guardrail. After striking the guardrail, the motorcyclist was thrown from his vehicle and came to rest on the outside shoulder.
The motorcycle proceeded into the roadway and struck the right side of the Pacifica before landing in the direct path of the semi-truck, which ran it over.
The motorcyclist was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The driver of the Pacifica, a 65-year-old Jacksonville man, his three passengers, and the driver of the semi-truck, a 57-year-old Deltona man, were all uninjured in the accident.
