The Seminole County Sheriff’s Office is hosting free, weekly women’s self defense classes that are open to the public.
The Safety Tactics and Awareness Response Program takes place once a month from 12 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office Training Center, which is located at 2772 Depot Avenue in Sanford.
The class teaches women how they may protect themselves by increasing situational awareness and maximizing safety potential. One hour of each session is dedicated to teaching participants the mindset of minimizing the risk of becoming a victim, while the other two hours are spent teaching physical skills.
The next available class will take place on Friday, January 7, with additional classes on February 4, March 4, April 1, May 6, June 3, July 1, August 5, September 2, October 7, November 4, and December 2, 2023.
The class requires an ample amount of physical activity, so participants are encouraged to come in comfortable exercise attire and to bring plenty of water.
The classes are only available to women over the age of 18. Any participants under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
For more information on the classes, or to register to participate, visit the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office Women’s Self Defense Class webpage.
