Debris pickup in Orlando

Orange County officials say that nearly 355,000 cubic yards of debris has been removed since two hurricanes passed through the area last year.

Since early October, the county’s debris removal contractor has collected hundreds of thousands of cubic yards of debris in the aftermath of Hurricane Ian and Hurricane Nicole.

Officials say the storm season generated enough debris to “fill 107 Olympic size swimming pools.”

Orange County is approximately 1,000 square miles and contains over 2,600 miles of roadways. Over the course of the past several months, contractors have utilized 96 individual trucks to collect a total of 7,940 loads of debris.

Officials say that any remaining yard waste or bulk items must be prepared for collection in accordance with Orange County Solid Waste guidelines.
