Woman’s body found in Kissimmee pond after witnesses say she walked in

The body of a missing woman was recovered from a Kissimmee pond a day after she was seen walking into the body of water.

During a press briefing on Wednesday, Osceola County Sheriff Marcos Lopez provided details regarding an apparent suicide that took place at a pond in Kissimmee.

According to Lopez, witnesses saw the older woman enter the pond on Tuesday, January 17. After she entered and submerged herself, witnesses say they saw another individual enter the pond to try and retrieve the woman.

Police were contacted and upon their arrival, the woman had been submerged for a small amount of time. A scuba team attempted to search for the woman, but were unsuccessful due to low visibility.

Lopez says that OCSO sought help from the Brevard County Dive Team on Tuesday evening and by Wednesday morning, the group had recovered the female from the water.

A few hours after the pond incident, authorities received reports of a missing person that matched the description of the deceased woman. Lopez says that police believe the woman who entered the pond was the woman declared missing.

The medical examiner’s office is still working on identifying the woman, according to Lopez.
