Sanford police identify man killed after allegedly attacking bar employee getting off work

The Sanford Police Department has identified a 35-year-old man who was shot and killed by a bar employee’s significant other after he allegedly attacked the woman as she was getting off work.

Edward Alexander Barfield was found dead from gunfire in the parking lot of George’s Tavern (1011 French Avenue) on Thursday, January 19, at around 2:20 a.m.

During their investigation into the shooting, police reviewed surveillance footage that showed an employee of the business entering her vehicle after closing the bar for the night.

Police say that video shows Barfield exiting a port-a-potty located near the employee’s vehicle and ambushing the woman.

The employee’s boyfriend, who was waiting nearby for the woman to finish her shift, allegedly saw Barfield attacking the woman before he removed a firearm from his waist and shot him.

The investigation is ongoing. In the aftermath of the incident, police indicated no charges were pending for the woman or her boyfriend.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the Sanford Police Department at 407-688-5070 or the Central Florida Crimeline at 800-423-8477.
