A 48-year-old Deltona man was killed after the vehicle he was riding in was involved in a head-on collision with another vehicle whose driver suffered a medical episode.
On Saturday, January 21, emergency personnel responded to the 2900 block of Lake Helen Osteen Road, just before 11 a.m., after reports of a car accident.
According to the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office, Candido Soto, Jr. was riding as a passenger in an SUV that was traveling northwest on Lake Helen Osteen Road, when the driver of a Ford Mustang experienced a medical episode and lost consciousness.
The Mustang ran off the right side of the roadway, re-entered the road, and crossed over the center line and into oncoming traffic, colliding with the SUV.
Soto was transported to AdventHealth Deltona, where he was pronounced deceased.
Three other occupants were transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
