An Orlando man, who was upset over baggage fees, made a bomb threat to Spirit Airlines agents at Orlando International Airport that was deemed fake after multiple law enforcement agencies and a K-9 unit responded.
On Thursday, February 2, 48-year-old Danny Curry was arrested and charged with falsely reporting a bomb, according to a report filed by the Orlando Police Department.
According to the report, multiple OPD units responded just after 1 p.m. to Gate #8 at the airport, which is located at 9102 Jeff Fuqua Boulevard, after receiving reports of a bomb threat.
During their investigation, police were told by a Spirit Airlines supervisor that Curry was upset over “carry-on fees” before he stated “I bet you everyone on that aircraft is going to deplane, there is a bomb on that aircraft.”
After Curry made the statement, the supervisor called the police. At that time, Curry’s wife told the supervisor that her husband’s statements were untrue.
Two Spirit employees standing at the ticket counter at the time of the incident told police that they heard Curry make the statement.
Police questioned Curry, who stated that he was upset over the baggage fees and alleged that he said “what if there was a bomb in that plane.” According to the police report, Curry was remorseful and did not realize the extent of the response that his comments would create.
Airport protocol was established shortly thereafter and agents from the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Transportation Security Administration, and the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority all responded.
The aircraft was deplaned and cleared of all baggage before K-9s were brought in to conduct a sweep. Law enforcement authorities determined there was no credible threat to the public and the airline resumed operations.
Curry was arrested and transported to jail on $5,000 bond. He was also trespassed from the Orlando International Airport.
