A 51-year-old man is facing a second degree murder charge after he admitted to brutally attacking another man who was pushing a woman in a wheelchair in downtown Orlando.

On Tuesday, February 14, Christopher David Blue was arrested by Orlando Police Department detectives in connection with a brutal attack perpetrated over the weekend.

According to a report filed by OPD, the victim and his girlfriend were walking north along Gertrude’s Walk, between W. Central Boulevard and W. Washington Street, when they came upon Blue.

Video surveillance shows that Blue was moving around, pacing back and forth, before the victims got to him and an argument ensued. After arguing for a brief period, the man continued pushing his girlfriend’s wheelchair past Blue.

As they passed by him, video shows Blue drop his backpack and proceed to swing at the man, knocking him down. Once the man was on the ground, Blue began punching, kicking, and stomping his head against the ground until he was unconscious.

Blue is seen leaving the scene a short time after.

During the attack, the victim’s girlfriend fled the scene to flag down police at the Downtown Bike Office, located at 46 W. Washington Street. Emergency personnel made their way back to the victim, who was unconscious, bleeding from his head, and taking shallow breaths.

The victim was transported to Orlando Regional Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.

During their investigation, authorities obtained a description of Blue from the victim’s girlfriend and used video surveillance from local businesses and the city of Orlando to track Blue’s movements.

Two days after the incident, police spotted Blue sitting on the steps of a local veterinary hospital along Orange Avenue. In part, Blue’s distinctive orange Nike shoes with a backwards swoosh helped police identify him.

During questioning, Blue stated that he was disrespected by the victim and his girlfriend and that he was struck first by the victim. Blue admitted to punching, kicking, and stomping on the victim several times and admitted that he “should have walked away to prevent the incident.”

After conducting their interview, police arrested Blue and transported him to the Orange County Jail.
