Police have identified five victims, including three that lost their lives, in two separate shootings that took place in west Orlando on Wednesday.
On Thursday, Orange County officials provided additional details about the shootings that took place in the Pine Hills community on February 22.
The first shooting took place at around 11 a.m. on Hialeah Street. Nathacha Augustin, 38, was riding as a passenger in a Hyundai. According to the driver, he and Augustin were riding around in the vehicle smoking marijuana for approximately 30 minutes. At one point, he observed his cousin, later identified as 19-year-old Keith Moses, and thought he “seemed down.”
The driver offered Moses a ride and Moses entered the rear passenger side of the vehicle, sitting directly behind Augustin. The driver says that after they were driving for approximately 30 seconds, he heard a loud bang. He noticed Augustin had blood on her face and pulled over along Hialeah Street.
The driver called 911 for assistance and Moses ran from the scene.
When police arrived on the scene, they found Augustin lying outside of the vehicle on her stomach with a gunshot wound to the left side of her chin.
Orange County Fire Rescue arrived on the scene and attempted to assist Augustin, but she died from her injuries and was pronounced deceased at 11:29 a.m.
Over the next several hours, detectives worked to canvas the scene to collect information for their investigation. Augustin’s body was removed and the vehicle was towed for forensic testing.
At approximately 4:05 p.m., authorities received calls about another shooting at the location and at another location nearby on Harrington Street.
According to authorities, Moses had allegedly returned to the scene and approached and shot a reporter, 24-year-old Dylan Lyons, and a photographer, Jesse Walden, who work for Spectrum News 13.
Lyons died from his injuries and Walden was taken to a hospital in critical condition.
Shortly after Moses shot the two journalists, he made his way over to a home on Harrington Street, a block away from the scene of the first two shootings. Moses entered a home and shot 9-year-old T’yonna Major and her mother, Brandi Major.
T’yonna succumbed to her injuries and was later pronounced deceased. Her mother is in critical condition, according to authorities.
Shortly after the shootings, police located and arrested Moses. He was armed with a handgun that police believe will connect him to the shootings. In the day since, police have not identified a motive for any of the homicides.
Moses remains jailed on no bond. He is facing charges of first degree murder, with additional charges expected.
Authorities say that Moses has a lengthy criminal history that includes at least eight felony and eleven misdemeanor arrests.
On Thursday, Walden issued a statement through his Facebook page thanking the community for the well wishes he’s received.
“I lost one of my best friends, Dylan yesterday. I was shot and now I’ve had surgery and I am OK thank you all so much for your well wishes,” said Walden. He concluded by stating that he is “very lucky to be alive.”
