A 30-year-old man was killed after his vehicle was rear-ended on the Turnpike and overturned into a pond, ejecting him in the process.
Florida Highway Patrol units responded to the scene of a fatal accident that took place near mile marker 257 in Orange County at around 4 a.m. on Friday, March 3.
According to authorities, a 27-year-old Davenport woman was traveling northbound on the Turnpike when her vehicle collided with the back of another vehicle being driven by a 30-year-old man from Waterbury, Connecticut.
After the collision, the second vehicle overturned onto the shoulder and collided with a light pole. The vehicle continued overturning until it came to final rest in a pond, according to the FHP report.
While the vehicle overturned, the 30-year-old man was ejected and sustained fatal injuries as a result. A passenger in the car, a 31-year-old woman from Waterbury, was critically injured in the accident.
Authorities are asking anyone who may have witnessed the accident to contact the Florida Highway Patrol at 407-737-2300.
