A 22-year-old Sanford man was killed after he was struck by a dump truck at an active construction site on State Road 429.
According to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol, the fatal accident took place just before 12:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 9.
A 2019 Kentworth T3 Series construction vehicle was on the southbound State Road 429 exit ramp to West Road at mile marker 26. The exit ramp was closed to traffic for a planned construction project.
The driver, a 62-year-old Apopka man, began backing the vehicle in a northerly direction on the exit ramp in an attempt to release materials onto the roadway for the project. The driver says he did not see his coworker walking in a northerly direction within the center lane of the roadway.
As a result, the rear of the truck struck the man. He was transported to AdventHealth Apopka Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.
The driver of the dump truck was not injured in the crash.
