Shaq’s Big Chicken restaurant opening in south downtown Orlando

A chicken restaurant chain partially owned by NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal will open its first location in Florida in Orlando later this year.

Big Chicken will take up shop at 250 E Michigan Street, in Orlando’s South Downtown (SoDo) district, replacing a former Boston Market location. According to the company’s website, the restaurant will open later this year, although no date has been set.

Known for its signature sandwiches, the restaurant serves up chicken prepared in a variety of ways. That includes the Big & Sloppy, which is topped with mac & cheese, crispy fried onions, and roasted garlic barbecue ailoi.

It also includes sandwiches named after Shaq’s various nicknames, including the Big Aristotle, which features muenster cheese, crispy fried onions, sweet and smokey Memphis barbecue sauce.

In addition to sandwiches, the restaurant features tenders, salads, sweet potato fries, and macaroni and cheese.

The restaurant will join multiple others that have opened nearby, including Cava, which replaced Zöe’s Kitchen last year. In the past year, SoDough Square and John and John’s Pizzeria have also both opened new locations nearby.

Big Chicken currently operates 13 restaurants in various states, with aggressive plans to expand throughout the country. The business has planned locations for California, Illinois, Louisiana, and Texas, among other states.
