A 36-year-old woman was killed this morning after her vehicle was struck from behind on State Road 408.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the fatal accident took place at around 6:16 a.m. on Thursday, March 23, in the westbound lanes of SR 408, near mile marker 7 in Orlando.
Preliminary evidence shows that a 36-year-old Daytona Beach woman was driving a 2005 Mazda 6 westbound when, for unknown reasons, the car came to a sudden stop.
A 52-year-old man from Sanford who was driving a 2020 Ford F-150 westbound says he was unable to stop in time and crashed into the back of the vehicle. A 42-year-old Orlando man who was driving a 2022 Chevrolet Silverado was also unable to stop in time and crashed into the rear of the F-150.
The Daytona Beach woman was transported to the Orlando Regional Medical Center, where she was pronounced deceased. Police are still investigating as to whether or not the woman suffered a medical episode prior to the crash.
The other drivers and their passengers, a 28-year-old man from Sanford and a 22-year-old man from Orlando, were not injured and remained on the scene.
Traffic homicide investigators are currently investigating the fatal crash. As of 9:30 a.m., there was a roadblock for the inside westbound lane of SR 408.
