Janie Frances (Fran) McCurdy, 95, of Winter Garden, Florida, passed away peacefully at 4:30 P.M. on Saturday, March 25, 2023 at the Winter Garden Nursing and Rehabilitation Facility. Prior to moving to the nursing home, she made her home with her daughter, Norma McCurdy Butts and her family, in Clermont, Florida.
She was born in LaGrange, Georgia on May 14, 1927 to the late O.B. Hall and Roberta S. Brasseale Hall.
Fran married Frank Norman Winkle on July 12, 1946, who preceded her in death on February 15, 1951, having been killed in the Korean War, She married Wallis McKee McCurdy on October 5, 1954, who preceded her in death on January 9, 1988.
During her homemaking years in Greenville, Pennsylvania, Fran was a talented seamstress, self-taught musician, gardener, avid card player and impressive DIY carpenter. She loved to bowl, golf, sing and act in the local theater guild.
In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by 7 brothers and 4 sisters, a son, Stanley S. McCurdy, and a son-in-law, Terry Kuhol.
Fran is survived by two daughters, Judy Kuhol-Brace and her husband, Denny Brace, of Lakewood, CO. Norma Butts and her husband, John Butts, of Clermont, FL. Daughter-in-law Cathy McCurdy Rousseau and her husband, Richard Rousseau of Deltona, FL; Grandsons, Jason and Michael; Granddaughters, Angela, Melissa, Olivia, Crystal and Jordan and 4 great grandchildren; Juliana, Willow, Mila and Gavin. Also surviving are two sisters, Norma Haslam of Birmingham, AL and Zelma Trotter of Cocoa, Florida and scores of loving nieces and nephews.
There will be no funeral or visitation. A memorial service will be held at the Primitive Baptist Church in Winter Garden, FL at a later date to be announced by family. Fran will be laid to rest beside her husband, Wallis, at Oaklawn Cemetery in Sanford, FL. Baldwin-Fairchild Oaklawn Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
