Two men have been arrested in connection with a shooting that claimed the life of a 31-year-old father and entertainment promoter in January.
Over the past two months, Casselberry Police Department investigators obtained arrest warrants for two suspects accused of murdering Derek Lavon Cummings II, who worked as an entertainment promoter for various local clubs and performing acts.
The first suspect, 21-year-old Daquan Woods, was arrested on Tuesday, March 28 by Orange County Sheriff’s Office deputies near his home in Apopka. The second suspect, 28-year-old Bobby Houston Bridges, was arrested on Sunday, April 2, by Seminole County Sheriff’s office deputies.
Cummings, who performed under the stage name “Antwaun Miles,” was found dead on Saturday, January 28, by Casselberry Police Department officers after authorities received reports regarding an early morning shooting.
On that day, CPD officers and Seminole County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the Carrington Park Condominiums at 2520 Caper Lane in Casselberry at around 5:30 a.m.
Upon arrival, officers found damage to a vehicle and shell casings nearby. Cummings was found a short distance away.
In the months since the fatal shooting occurred, friends and family have taken to share their thoughts on the tragic passing of Cummings, who turned 31 in November.
“I’m praying and asking God to heal me and bring me peace cause I can’t see life without you here, man. You were more than my cousin, you are my brother,” reads a statement from one of Cummings’ cousins.
On Saturday, April 8, friends and family plan to honor Cummings during a halftime dedication ceremony at the 6th Annual PDay at the Central Florida Fairgrounds.
