One person was ejected and killed and several others were injured in a fatal accident that shut down a stretch of State Road 528 for hours on Monday.
The accident took place around 8:03 a.m. on Monday, April 10, near mile marker 33 of SR 528.
According to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol, a 74-year-old woman from Cocoa Beach was driving a 2016 BMW 228i eastbound on SR 528, just west of State Road 520. Behind her, a 45-year-old Kissimmee man was driving a 2007 Ford E-350 with at least six other passengers.
The woman lost control of the BMW and ran off the roadway to the left. As she overcorrected to the right, she reentered the eastbound lanes and traveled into the direct path of the Ford, colliding with the rear of the vehicle.
After the collision, the van began rotating and ran off the roadway to the left. The driver overcorrected to the right and, as a result, the vehicle traveled southeast across the eastbound lanes, crashed into a guardrail, and overturned onto its right side.
While the van was rotating and overturning, a female passenger was ejected from the vehicle. That woman, who has not been positively identified by FHP as of this report, was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The driver of the van and six passengers were transported to Orlando Regional Medical Center with minor injuries.
