Osceola county officials purchased and donated 4,000 pounds of locally raised meat during a recent livestock show.

Several commissioners that represent Osceola County made the purchase during the Osceola County Fair and Kissimmee Valley Livestock Show held earlier this year.

The commissioners purchased a total of three hogs and three steers from local 4H Club students who raised the animals themselves. The meat was donated to multiple local charities, including the Osceola Council on Aging’s Meals on Wheels program, St. Rose of Lima Food Pantry, Pantry Planters, Alter Community Church, Gray’s House of Hope, and Help Now of Osceola.

“This program is a win for everyone involved. The students get rewarded for their hard work and many hungry citizens get a delicious, locally grown meal,” said Osceola County Commissioner Brandon Arrington, who has represented district 3 since 2008.
